Ein Quadratkilometer Bildung (km2 Bildung, en: "one square kilometer education") stands for equal educational opportunities for all children and young people, regardless of their social background. Together with specialists, teachers, and administrators from local educational institutions, as well as other local education stakeholders, small-scale educational networks are being established around key elementary schools in challenging locations. km2 Bildung is a bottom-up program. This means that key topics and ideas for possible practical approaches come from local specialists, teachers, and administrators, as they are familiar with the specific challenges of their social environment. Supported by the coordination of an educational workshop, educational offerings and structures are to be systematically developed and refined across institutions. There are currently 18 km2 Bildung networks in seven federal states.
