CorrelAidAbout Us
CorrelAidCorrelAid helps non-profits to use data critically and reflected for their impact.
Together with our network of volunteers, we help nonprofits make the most of their data and use it thoughtfully and strategically to maximize their impact. This benefits everyone—and ultimately, civil society!
CorrelAid operates on a Code of Ethics developed by our community. Based on this, we decide which projects we pursue, what our shared goals are, and how we want to interact with each other. The latter is also summarized in our Code of Conduct.
Our goal of empowering data analysts and supporting collaboration with civil society is always connected to responsible and ethical data practices. In addition to respectful and non-discriminatory behavior, we value transparency, pragmatism, and self-determination.
Ethics Commission
The ethics commission is elected once a year by the general assembly of CorrelAid e.V. and has up to five volunteer members. It reviews the association’s activities with regard to general ethical values as well as compliance with the Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. The ethics commission acts upon request — it examines concerns brought to its attention and issues a written statement.
The rules of procedure of the ethics commission can be viewed here (German).
The main tasks of the ethics commission include:
- Evaluation of association activities, e.g. Data4Good projects.
- Maintenance of the Code of Conduct and the Code of Ethics.
- Development of guidelines, e.g. on sponsoring.
- Advising the board on questions of ethics and data protection.
- Handling violations of the codes: If you encounter a situation that appears to violate one of the codes, you can reach out to our community managers or directly to the ethics commission. They will treat your concern confidentially and are there for you.
Do you have a request for the ethics commission or want to learn more about their work? Feel free to write to ethics@correlaid.org or reach out via Slack in the #ask-the-ethics-committee channel.
